October 2019

Redwood City Señors Softball Club

Minutes for October 10, 2019 Board of Directors Meeting

The October 2019 meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President, Dennis Logie. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Rick Bowlby, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, and Hiro Tarumi.

Absent members: Pete Lewis and Angelo Rizzato

Guest: Pete Kutch

1. The September 2019 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes were reviewed and approved. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The September 2019 Treasurer’s Report was reviewed and approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato.

3. Holdings increased since last month due to One Pitch raffle tickets sold and paid dues.

4. Holiday Party - Pete Kutch handed out a status which showed the December 7 party will be at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center and catered by The Carvery. Invitations will be handed or mailed out in the coming 2 weeks. Entertainment will have some surprises and the party will start at 5:00 PM to allow more time to celebrate.

5. Saturday League – We are planning to begin games on November 16. We still need to confirm that Hawes Park is available. Teams are being formed with 6 possible teams so far: Blues, Turn Two, Knights, Gamblers, Gold Rush, and Jolly Rogers. Pat will send an email to Club members to solicit any others that want to play.

6. 2020 Tournament date – Pat said that Eric Newby (Red Morton Park Director) is still waiting to hear from Little League when their use of the Red Morton fields will be over. Most likely, they will need the fields for June 13-14. June 27-28 is likely available as is June 20-21 (Father’s Day weekend). Bill will talk to the NCSSA about the dates and other dates that might not have too many conflicts. Too many tournaments on the same weekend causes a conflict with teams not able to attend and it also causes the umpire pool to run thin. The Board discussed having a 1 day tournament on June 20 to stay away from Father’s Day on the 21st.

7. Fall Night League – Pete Lewis was not in attendance but had reported that things are going well.

8. Woodruff retirement luncheon – Plans are to reserve the banquet room at Harry’s Hofbrau and invite anyone who wants to come and have lunch with Carl on October 29.

9. Election Planning – Each year, the Club asks the membership to submit any names of those that want to join the Board of Directors. An election will be held at the Annual Membership Meeting in January. A letter to the effect will go out in a few weeks.

10. Emergency Numbers for players – Pat provided a form at Day Play for members to specify an emergency contact name and number. Pete Lewis has the same form for Night Play.

11. Final status of Bechet Snack Shack – The Club cleared out 2 BBQs, a freezer, a commercial cooler, and microwave. The City has since picked up everything allowing us much more room in the shack’s storage area. Angelo donated and delivered a good working freezer and a BBQ.

12. John Pinkerton update - Hopefully John can attend the December 7 Holiday Party.

13. Senior Games – Every year about this time, Dennis coordinates the Senior Games. This year has been a very busy year and the next few months look to also be busy. The Board recommends that we skip this year and have the Games again in 2020.

14. Club recognition of Redwood City – postponed

15. Day Play and 1 Pitch incidents – After much discussion, the two incidents are considered closed. Members involved will be expected to not have a repeat of their poor behavior. Any further incidents will be dealt with accordingly.

16. Round Table – Rick brought up a concern from a Day Player that the women players are not being evenly distributed across the teams. The Board thinks that the Day Play coaches do a good job in selecting teams based on talent and there is not a problem to cause a change to the selection process. Retired member Jim Denton passed away recently.

17. The meeting adjourned at 9:10 PM. The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday November 7, 2019
