March 2019

Redwood City Señors Softball Club

Minutes for March 6, 2019 Board of Directors Meeting

The March 2019 meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by President, Dennis Logie. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, and Hiro Tarumi. Absent members: Rick Bowlby, Bill Picht

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The February 2019 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes were approved with one correction. The Spring Night League starts March 19, not March 18. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The February 2019 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report reflected membership dues payments, the purchase of two new Pitch Safe screens, and a reimbursement of $250.24 to a party committee member. This would put the 2018 party further in the red.

3. Bob Cushman – The services for Bob were well attended with 165 attendees of which more than a 100 were affiliated with senior softball. Dennis as the Club Chaplain led the services and was joined by several well-done talks. Bob ran an Apple program that did a face recognition of any player and converted found pictures to a DVD. The Club will see if someone can continue Bob’s project.

4. Memorial Tournament – Instead of naming our annual tournament for a member who recently passed away, the Board decided to make recognition of Club members who have passed away in the year preceding the tournament with notices posted at the fields.

5. New Date for Tournament – August 17-18 is the official date for this year’s tournament. The schedule is clear as far as competing tournaments and the fields are available. Entry fee will be $325. Pat will send last year’s flyer to Bill.

6. Duffy Refund – The Duffy boat ride was auctioned off at last year’s party. The Club will refund the winning bidder since he will not be able to use it with Captain Bob’s passing.

7. New Pitching Screens – Hiro purchased two new screens. The Club now has five. The three old ones are still in good shape. The Club will keep one or two of the old ones and give away or sell the other(s).

8. Annual ‘Best’ Volunteer Award – postponed.

9. Gone but not Forgotten – The initial thought was to have a signed jersey for passed members, but it had complications. Dave suggested we wait six months or so and send a nice letter to the family of the deceased and let them know we have posted a picture on the Club website.

10. Hawes Park Closing – It was fake news.

11. Shirt Selection for 2019 – Pete presented 13 options of shirt colors. All the options are two-button mesh. The Board selected a red with black sleeves style.

12. San Jose Giants – Angelo recommended Thursday July 18. The price will be the same as last year.

13. Fall/Winter Night League (Monday) – Lots of rainouts but when they played, often had 20 or so players. February 25 was the last game. Sergio Ramirez is now a Night League co-commissioner.

14. Hawes Winter League (Saturday) – Play concluded on February 23. With a few adjustments, games were competitive although rain canceled three Saturdays.

15. Spring Night League (Tuesday) – Play starts March 19 at San Carlos Highlands Field. Everything is ready to go.

16. New Drag Screen for Hawes – Hiro decided a new screen is not needed.

17. Trimming of the Snack Shack – Dennis still needs to talk to Eric Newby about cleaning out the Bechet shack.

18. Round Table – Pete is inquiring about the use of Highlands for Summer Day Play. If it is not available, Hawes would be the next choice. Hoover will not be available. Dennis says the San Jose Vintage Club has openings for two teams for Saturday play at Moffett Field. Players would have to join the Vintage Club for $100 and be available on Saturdays. Hiro would like Day Play on Wednesdays on those weeks that Tuesday is rained out. An announcement will be made to Day Players.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM.

The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday April 4, 2019 at 7:00PM.

Respectfully submitted by Pat Michael, Club Secretary
