Redwood City Señors Softball Club

Minutes for December 12, 2019 Board of Directors Meeting

The December 2019 meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President, Dennis Logie. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, and Hiro Tarumi.

Absent: Rick Bowlby Guest: Pete Kutch

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The November 2019 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes were reviewed and approved. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The November 2019 Treasurer’s Report was reviewed and approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report showed no significant activity. Next month, the report will show a more complete view of the Holiday party financials.

3. Holiday Party Review – Pete Kutch provided a preliminary Party Financial Report and a Snapshot of the party highlights. The Financial Report detailed the revenues and expenses and showed a net gain of approximately $2,400. Some of this was due to the larger attendance than last year and the lucrative auction sales. Pete reported that Deb and he will be the party coordinators for 2020. The party has received many positive comments. Later in the meeting, there was concern expressed that during the party too many people were talking and making noise while speakers were trying to give talks.

4. Saturday League – After the 1st two weeks of games, Pete Lewis modified the game schedule and placed the Gamblers in the lower division and the Free Agents as the flex team. Rain and the party have prevented games the past two weeks. This Saturday should be OK to restart games unless it rains again.

5. 2020 Tournament Date and Director - Bill reported that the NCSSA Scheduling Committee is restricting tournaments to no more than 1 per weekend. The Club is planning for June 27-28, 2020 and is currently looking for a Tournament Director.

6. Fall Night League – Going well with about 26 players showing up when the weather is good and much less when the weather is not so good, i.e. rain and cold.

7. Election Planning – An email to the membership was sent announcing the Annual Meeting on January 9, 2020. No nominations for the Board of Directors were received. Day Play and Night Play will promote the Annual Meeting to encourage members to attend.

8. Little League Pitching Screen – The screen is used to protect players that are shagging balls behind second base. We found it at Griffin Field and are not sure who it belongs to.

9. Paid Umpires for Night League – Pete feels that there are not enough players at Night Play to justify a paid umpire. He will take a look at ways to increase attendance.

10. San Jose Giants Options –
Angelo has been in touch with the SJ Giants liaison person who told him that everything will be the same as last year if we attend a 2020 game. Angelo wants to investigate Group Sales at an SF Giants game and maybe charter a bus to take a group to a game. Angelo will get more information.

11. Club Recognition of Redwood City – Dennis is still waiting to hear back from Eric Newby on our proposal to make some improvements to the fields.

12. Round Table – Steve would like the Club to reconsider the scholarship program it tried to initiate a few years ago. Basically, it would grant a cash amount to an aspiring high school softball player. Pete reported that the website was down this week but is now up. The problem was related to the server. We might need to move the website to another server.

The meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM. The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday January 9, 2020. It will follow the Annual Membership meeting scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
