October 2018

Redwood City Señors Softball Club

Minutes for October 4, 2018 Board of Directors Meeting

The October 2018 meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by President, Dennis Logie. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Rick Bowlby, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, and Hiro Tarumi. Absent: Bill Picht Guest: Pete Kutch

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The September 2018 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The September 2018 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angel Rizzato. The report had nothing remarkable in it but did show the 1 Pitch event almost broke even with a loss of $55.

3. Holiday Party update – Pete Kutch, the party coordinator, brought the Board up to date on the party. There was discussion on having the Most Improved Player award go to a Night League player versus Day League or have an additional award recognizing the year’s best contributor. Pete provided a copy of the invite that will be sent out soon. This year’s party will allow attendees to make payments with a credit card. Pat will be setting it up. Pete says the next Committee meeting will be October 15 where envelopes will be stuffed with invites and raffle tickets for mailing.

4. Hawes Winter League (Saturdays) – Play is scheduled to start on November 17. Hiro has contacted managers and so far there is a possibility of 6 teams: Blues, Turn Two, Knights (Night League players), Jolly Rogers, Gamblers, and a combined Chiefs/Gold Rush team. The Board would like additional teams.

5. Board Members for 2019 – All members present are willing to return next year. A letter will be prepared soliciting nominations for 2019 Board members and an announcement of the Annual Meeting in January.

6. Night League Umpire - Pete again talked to Kevin Dowling and it is possible to have an umpire for 1 evening a week. It will be a certified umpire from the Umpire Association. While we have Club members who are certified umpires, the Association will assign our umpire. This will be an extra expense for the Club but hopefully it will give the Night League a more professional look and result in more members.

7. Fall/Winter Night League – Pete reports the League is going smooth although it sometimes starts late due to a Flag Football team using the outfield until after 7:00 PM.

8. Señors Games – Dennis said the 1st day of the event was that morning with a large turnout and the most women participants ever. Interesting was that there were no 50s players participating. The 2nd day of the Games will be tomorrow.

9. 2019 Tournament dates – The 1st weekend in July 2019 is July 6-7 but it is only 2 days after July 4. The weekend before might be a better option. Bill Picht will be asked to do some research and find a good date. The NCSSA needs to know our date by the end of November.

10. Inventory of Snack Shack – Angelo says the Bechet Snack Shack is full of stuff we do not need. He will go through the shack and take inventory with the intention of cleaning it out.

11. Day Play Incidents – The policy of a Board member approaching anyone who is violating the Code of Conduct was enforced recently when a Club member was heard using profane language. After being talked to, the problem seems to have gone away. Another Club member was observed with bad behavior but since it was off the field, there was no action taken.

12. Round Table – Pete wants to post 1 Pitch pictures on the website. He will be taking last chance orders for 2018 Club shirts. Steve again brought up his desire to have the Club sponsor an all-women’s senior team. There might be enough women Club members right now to form a team but who they would play is the question. The Club might ask one of its female members to spearhead this effort.

The meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM.

The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday November 1, 2018.

Respectfully submitted by Pat Michael, Club Secretary
