November 2018

Redwood City Señors Softball Club

Minutes for November 1, 2018 Board of Directors Meeting

The November 2018 meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President, Dennis Logie. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Rick Bowlby, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, and Hiro Tarumi.

Absent: Angelo Rizzato Guest: Pete Kutch

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The October 2018 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The October 2018 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report had nothing remarkable in it. Income was at a standstill while expenses showed a large outlay for the Holiday party.

3. Holiday Party update – Pete Kutch, the party coordinator, said party plans are moving along. Invitations have been sent out and replies are beginning to arrive. The program is being arranged so there is ample time for socializing and dancing. Randy Schwartz is soliciting donations and they are starting to roll in. Pete is collecting information for a ‘Lost but not Forgotten’ memorial at the party. Pete says the next Committee meeting will be November 7.

4. Hawes Winter League (Saturdays) – Play has been rescheduled to start on December 8. Pete Lewis worked up possible structures and schedules and it looks like a 6 team format of an upper and lower division with 3 teams each will work best. Upper Division teams will be Blues, Knights, and Turn Two; Lower Division teams will be Gold Rush, Gamblers, and Jolly Rogers. Hiro has volunteered to do the bulk of the umpiring.

5. 2019 Tournament Information – Bill has submitted July 20-21 to the NCSSA for the Club’s 2019 tournament. The major competition that weekend will be Carson City, which should not be very significant. The NCSSA is introducing a new softball for tournament use. The Club still has a large supply of Baden softballs they will use up before switching. John Moran has been designated the NCSSA Tournament Liaison and will oversee tournaments and work with all Tournament Directors including our Tournament Director, Bill Picht.

6. Annual Meeting for 2019 – Pat presented a letter to be emailed out to members of the Club soliciting nominations for the 2019 Board, reminding members of the Holiday party, and providing information about the upcoming Saturday League. Another email will be sent out on December 3 announcing the 2019 Annual Meeting on January 3. Dennis will finalize the letters and have Donna send them out.

7. Blood Drive for members – Dennis and Jeff Barile are coordinating the possibility of having a mobile blood bank come to the field and have willing members donate on January 8. At least 20 people are needed. After some discussion, the Board wants to explore the possibility of having members, on a selected date, go to a blood bank in the area. This could be more time efficient and relieve the Club of any responsibility of having mobile vans come to the field and not enough members to donate.

8. Monday Night League at Hawes – Pete is tracking numbers to see if an umpire is justified. There recently were 30 players but with the cold weather arriving, the numbers might go down.

9. Tuesday Night League at San Carlos - Pete says the league will start on March 19, 2019.

10. Inventory of Snack Shack – Delayed until Angelo returns next month.

11. Round Table – Pat expressed some concerns with the volunteer umpiring during Day Play. Hiro will look into it. Pete will be putting in a shirt order on Friday. This will be the last order for the 2018 Club shirts.

The meeting adjourned at 9:10 PM.

The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday December 13, 2018.

Respectfully submitted by Pat Michael, Club Secretary
