March 2018

Redwood City Señors Softball Club

Minutes for March 15, 2018 Board of Directors Meeting

The March 2018 meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Dennis Logie, President. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, and Hiro Tarumi. Absent: Rick Bowlby and Angelo Rizzato.

1. The February 2018 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The February 2018 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato.

3. 501(c) 3 potential – Postponed. Awaiting a report from Barry Lewis

4. Tax Returns 2017 – Postponed. Awaiting a report from Angelo.

5. Insurance Report – Postponed. Awaiting a report from Angelo.

6. Umpire Ron – Ron Baughman has not been seen at Day Play or Saturday Play in quite a while except once.

7. Tuesday Nights at San Carlos – The Spring Season started on March 13 with no problems.

8. Saturday League – The season wrapped up on February 24. All the teams played well. Some older teams have a few skilled younger players giving them an advantage. Next year the Club will consider some older teams playing fewer games against other older teams.

9. Club Shirts – Pete presented various designs. A poll of the Night League showed a preference for wicking but not white. There has been a concern expressed that the 2017 shirts snagged a lot. Pete showed samples of a mesh and smooth material. Smooth was the material used for the 2017 shirts. The Board preferred the mesh. The preferred color was Navy blue. Royal blue was quickly dismissed being it was too Dodgerish. Navy blue with a white trim on the side might be the selection. Pete will bring samples to the April meeting. An additional logo on the back was brought up but voted down.

10. One Pitch Tournament Commissioner – The games are scheduled for September 3, Labor Day. Pete Lewis and Bill Picht volunteered to run the tournament. Rob Weiss will be asked if he wants to again help out.

11. Holiday Party Commissioner – The rumors of Pete Kutch not being the 2018 Party Commissioner have been greatly exaggerated. Pete along with Deb Kutch have again volunteered to run the party. Pete is considering a new caterer and possibly a new venue if the San Carlos Center is not big enough.

12. Our Shed Investigation – Dennis will pursue discussions with Redwood City to allow the Club to place a 20’ x 12’ shed at Red Morton. The vacant lot next to the National Guard Armory was being considered but is being converted to a parking lot.

13. Club Tournament – Pat reports that 2 teams have signed up. He has conferred with Eric Newby that all 4 fields are available for the July 7-8 tournament. Pat would like to get a written contract for the fields to prevent any conflicts. Bill is arranging the umpires. Pat will pursue getting refreshments at Hawes and will ask Bruce Utecht to run the Snack Shack at Bechet.

14. Round Table – Bill reported that 2-3 players were involved in a heated discussion that had the potential of getting physical. The players involved will be talked to. Bill also reported that the NCSSA Tournament schedule is on their website and the By-Laws are getting an update. Last year, NCSSA reported 8 incidents that resulted in discipline. Pete reported that a Night player/pitcher does not want to use the screen or mask. Pete will soon have a rules meeting where he will insist pitchers need to use one or the other. This is similar to NCSSA rules that require a mask. Hiro was asked to take out the ‘Monday’ on the Rain Line when reporting the Night League weather status since the league can play on Monday or Tuesday. Steve inquired why the Club doesn’t make more use of the electronic scoreboards. It was expressed that they are not user friendly, will need a dedicated and trained person to operate, and do not have remote capability.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:53 PM

The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday April 5, 2018. Respectfully submitted by Pat Michael, Club Secretary
