Minutes for June 7, 2018 Board of Directors Meeting

The June 2018 meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President, Dennis Logie. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Rick Bowlby, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Angelo Rizzato, and Hiro Tarumi. Absent: Dave Reck

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The May 2018 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes had one correction and were approved as corrected. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The May 2018 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report showed a slow month except for a large hat sale due to an entire team needing hats.

3. Tuesday Nights at San Carlos – The Spring Season continues with good attendance in spite of bad weather and Warrior game conflicts. Pete reports that 24 or more players are showing up and they have had no problem with outside people or teams wanting to use the field.

4. Club Shirts – Pete has received enough requests to put in an order for 48 shirts. He is hoping to receive the shirts before the Club Tournament in July.

5. Club Tournament – Pat has sent out emails to team managers to remind them to sign up, let them know of local hotel rates, and a request for more 75+/80+ teams. The Board discussed marking the fields for the Commit and Scoring Lines and settled on using tape like they did last year.

6. Day Play Incidents – There have been 3 concerns recently. 1st, a player was vocally abusive to anyone within hearing distance. He will be talked to that this conduct is unacceptable. 2nd, in the past month a player had arguments with other players, played in an unsafe manner, and conducted himself in a way unacceptable. He will be reprimanded. 3rd, a new Day Player will be under the watchful eye of the Day Play Commissioners due to knowledge of his earlier conduct in other venues.

7. Excess Softballs – Pat says that there are 4 buckets of used softballs at Griffin and we only need 2 of them. To get rid of the other 2 buckets or the balls we do not need for the Señors Games, it was suggested to list them on Craig’s List and Nextdoor.com.

8. Member Recognition – Pat was approached by a Day Player suggesting we honor one of the members for all the work he does for the Club. The Board decided to recognize him and others who also contribute behind the scenes to the Club at the Holiday Party.

9. 1 and 1 Rule Change – The 1 and 1 rule will only be used if all managers agree or the game is running late. So far it has not been a problem when used.

10. San Jose Giants – Angelo has reserved 50 tickets for the July 25 event. An announcement email will go out soon to the Club membership.

11. Shed Investigation – The Club is at a dead end in its attempt to place a shed at Red Morton.

12. Round Table – Bob Cushman has been in contact with Ron the umpire. He is OK and taking a softball break. Pete reminded everyone on the base running rules. The Club is still trying to get Highlands Field so that Day Play, scheduled to go the Hoover next week, can instead play at Highlands. Dennis will ask a Club member to talk to San Carlos management. Pete will get the 1 Pitch flyer ready for the Labor Day event on September 3.
