August 2018

Redwood City Señors Softball Club

Minutes for August 6, 2018 Board of Directors Meeting The August 2018 meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by President, Dennis Logie. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Rick Bowlby, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Dave Reck, and Angelo Rizzato. Absent were: Bill Picht and Hiro Tarumi. Guest: Pete Kutch AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The July 2018 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The July 2018 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report showed a busy month especially with expenses that included tournament expenses, San Jose Giants event subsidy, sponsorship payout for 4 teams, and the purchase of new Club shirts.

3. Holiday Party update – Pete Kutch gave a rundown on the current status of the party plans. The venue will be at the San Carlos Adult Community Center on December 8. Pete has negotiated with The Carvery (Harry’s Hofbrau) for a very decent price for the dinner. Randy Schwartz has joined the party committee and is working the raffle and auction parts of the program. Start time will be earlier, around 5:00 versus 6:00 last year. And with the plan to reduce the number of auction items and keep the time spent on the raffle to a minimum, there hopefully will be enough time at the end for more socializing and dancing. Included will be a slide show, live entertainment, and a DJ. The party will possibly introduce the use of a credit card reader to process transactions.

4. Tournament review – Mark Kaufmann came to the meeting to deliver the 67 awards jackets. Pat will get the jackets to the 4 winning teams. Mark indicated he is getting close to retirement. Pat went over the results of the tournament that had been earlier emailed to the Board members. Essentially the tournament went well with no major conflicts but a few things to work on for next year’s tournament. Even with some extra expenses the tournament finished with a small gain of $255.

5. One Pitch Tournament – Pete Lewis coordinated the handing out and mailing of invitations to all Club members. The event is set for Labor Day, September 3. Pete has arranged team managers for all 8 teams, 4 National and 4 American League. Raffle items are being solicited and Angelo will get the gift cards and will work the menu. He will need to find 2 BBQs.

6. Replenish our ‘paramedic’ – Club member and Day Player Jeff Barile is a retired firefighter and often tends to injured players. As such, he occasionally uses his own medical supplies. The Club intends to replenish Jeff’s 1st aid supply.

7. Tuesday Nights at San Carlos – Pete is still working on having a certified umpire for Night Play. The last game in San Carlos for the summer season will be August 13th. The fall season will begin August 27 or September 10 at Hawes Park.

8. San Jose Giants review – There were 74 attendees at the July 25th game. The Club subsidized $148 to cover the cost of the tickets.

9. Day Play Rule discussion – Pat suggested a rule change that only allows 1st and 3rd basepersons to play back on 75+ batters and only if safety is a concern. The change was approved and will be presented at Day Play.

10. Señors Games – Dennis is shooting for some time in October.

11. Day Play Incidents – No change from last month.

12. Round Table – Dennis announced that Day Play will be moving from Hoover Field back to Red Morton on August 21.

The meeting adjourned at 9:13 PM

The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 6. 2018
