Minutes for November 8, 2017 Board of Directors Meeting

The November 2017 meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Dennis Logie, President. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, and Hiro Tarumi. Absent: Rob Weiss. Guests: Pete Kutch and Rick Bowlby

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The October 2017 Board Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The October 2017 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report showed another donation to the Club in memory of Howard Patridge. The report also showed payment to Mark Kaufmann for Club shirts and hats.

3. Holiday Party – Pete Kutch, the Holiday Party Coordinator, reports that RSVPs are coming in but at a lower rate than last year. Rick provided an extensive list of raffle and auction items. There will be both a silent auction and open auction. In total the value of the available raffle and auction items is approximately $12,000 and with the number of raffle items, there is a 50% chance of winning. It was decided to send party invitations to the spouses of recently deceased members. Pete reports that the food is lined up, liability insurance is in work, and entertainment is on the program.

4. Club tournament date – Bill is working with the NCSSA Board to secure July 14-15 as our annual tournament date. While we are only requesting one weekend, there are some directors that are requesting several weekends. We want the NCSSA to have them move off our requested date. Our formal request for July 14-15 will be submitted on December 1 and at the NCSSA Board meeting on December 2, they will draft the 2018 tournament schedule. If July is not available, we would fall back to the June 23-24 date.

5. Night League – Pete Lewis reports the Fall Season at Hawes Park is going OK. Attendance has been 20-24 players except for last Monday when only 16 showed up.

6. Saturday League – Now scheduled to start December 9 at Hawes Park, the Saturday League will feature 7 teams. The 3 younger teams are Blues, Turn Two, and the Knights. The 4 older teams are Chiefs, Gamblers, Royals, and Jolly Rogers. Play will go until February 17. Rosters will have to be checked to make sure all players are members.

7. Nominations for Board – Rob Weiss has resigned from the Board. Rick Bowlby was voted in to fill the vacancy. A call for 2018 Board nominations will be sent out to the membership.

8. Tax ID release – Donors to the Club have asked for our Tax Identification Number (TIN) but since we are not a 501 (c) (3), donations are not generally deductible. We provide a Thank You letter to donors but not our TIN.

9. Umpire Ron – The Board has decided it no longer needs the services of Ron Baughman for Day Play and the Saturday League.

10. Club Shed – Steve reports that there is a 12 x 20 foot shed available for $1000. We would need to have it transported to a not yet determined location at Red Morton Park. Dennis will talk to Eric Newby, the Community Services Manager for Red Morton, about a possible location.

11. New Scoreboard – Pete Lewis reports he is still working on getting another scoreboard.

12. Day Play Rules – Pat described a Day Play situation where a pop up to a rover should be considered an Infield Fly even though the ball is in the outfield.

13. Round Table – Hiro would like access to the Red Morton batting cage. Pat mentioned that the old batting cage by the pool might be more available and he would check into it.

The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday December 7, 2017.
