Minutes for May 4, 2017 Board of Directors Meeting

The May 2017 meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Dennis Logie, President. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, Hiro Tarumi, and Rob Weiss. Guest: Jerry Marsh.


1. The April 2017 Board Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The April 2017 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. It was a quiet month. Sales on the new Club shirts are going well with the Club breaking even on the cost. Bob Cushman’s photo project has brought in some donations to the Club.

3. June Tournament – Jerry Marsh, Tournament Director, provided a status of the Club tournament that is scheduled for June 22-25. Team signups are low so far but expected to increase soon. May 15 is the deadline to sign up at the discounted rate. Jerry will call teams to remind them of the tournament final sign up date that is fast approaching. There are currently 4 teams signed up.

4. Club Shirts – Pete reports that of the 57 shirts available, 7 are left. Pete is now working on a reorder for more shirts and will notify Club members of the various options; i.e., polo, hoodie sweatshirt, regular sweatshirt, women’s cut, and the current shirt. Plans are being made for a 2018 shirt.

5. Photo/Video options – The Bob Cushman photo project, which records a collection of photos featuring any player(s), has had several clients. Dave Reck and Bob decided on a video to play on the Club website to advertise the project. Interested members can receive their photos on a thumb drive or other media and if willing can make a donation to the Club to cover costs.

6. Team Sponsorship status – Pat reports that 5 teams have been contacted for sponsorship in 2017: Gold Rush 80s, Chiefs 80s, State Roofing Systems 75s, Blues 65s, and Turn 2 50s. The Board decided on a $3000 total sponsorship fund to be divided by the number of sponsored teams, not to exceed $600 per team.

7. Day Play rules – It was recommended that any new rules be posted at the field so that players are more aware of changes.

8. Memorial gifts – Angelo mentioned that the Club occasionally gets donations in honor of members that have passed away. These are often at the request of families. It was recommended that a letter of appreciation be sent to the donating person(s) and a letter of recognition be sent to the bereaved family. A list of persons that have donated to the Club for any reason will be placed on the website.

9. San Jose Giants – Angelo is finalizing plans for the July 20 game and negotiating with the San Jose Stadium if a Club member can throw out the 1st pitch. The San Jose Giants play the Rancho Cucamonga Dodgers that evening. For $25 members sit in a reserved section, get dinner, beverage, and $2 beer. Email to follow.

10. Change of Bank – Angelo has been working on moving the Club fund from Wells Fargo to another bank. Chase and Alliant Credit Union are 2 considerations.

11. Club logo placement – The Board continues to discuss ways to display the Club logo on the scoreboards and backstops. They do not want to put up something that looks bad after a short time.

12. Insurance – Angelo explained that the Club insurance is for liability, not for parked cars, medical, or liquor liability. It is an ASA blanket policy for coverage of accidental injuries to insured ASA players, coaches and umpires during softball activities.

13. Round Table –Steve brought up problems associated with the recording and tracking of members paying dues. It was pointed out that because of the various methods of payment and payment recipients, problems will continue to exist. Fortunately there are very few. Pete mentioned that San Carlos treats us well and pointed to a recent example of the city resolving a problem the Night League had at the Highlands Field.
