February 2017

Redwood City Señors Softball Club

Minutes for March 7, 2017 Board of Directors Meeting

The March 2017 meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Dennis Logie, President. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, and Hiro Tarumi. Members absent: Rob Weiss. Guest: Jerry Marsh.

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The February 2017 Board Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The February 2017 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report showed little activity last month.

3. June Tournament– Jerry Marsh, Tournament Director, provided a status of the Club tournament that is scheduled for June 22-25. Jerry has been making a pitch for volunteers at Club events and has gotten a good response but still needs 3 more. He is negotiating a deal at the Courtyard Marriott for room rates. Bob Elwood will be printing the letters and game cards and will reserve the fields. Jerry will get 12 cases of small bottle water and Styrofoam coolers. He will ask the VMSC if they want to do the Snack Shack. Thursday and Friday games will be at Bechet co-located with the Snack Shack. The McGarvey concrete behind the outfield will be a home run on the fly and a double on the roll.

4. Saturday League – Unfortunately with the rainouts and RWC field commitments, there were only 3 Saturdays for Club games. Some teams only got one Saturday in. A member of the Gamblers, which has several players who join the Club to play on Saturday, inquired about a refund. The Board decided that a refund would be unwarranted.

5. Club Shirts – Pete presented pictures of the wicking selections. He will order 48 men’s shirts of various sizes and poll the women Club members of their interest and size. Shirts will be offered to Club members for $25.

6. Night League – Sing Ups for the upcoming season at the San Carlos Highlands Field is open. The deadline to sign up is March 10 and the season starts March 21. The plan is to start the season using the Day Play format of pick up teams with the possibility of going to a team format later on. The League will not have a paid umpire.

7. Replacement scoreboard – One of the Club’s wooden scoreboards is broken beyond repair. The Club will see if Mo Hosoda has one available or can make another one.

8. New Club team – The Redwood City Gold Rush, an 80 + team, has expressed an interest in being sponsored by the Club. A Sponsorship Application and set of Requirements will be sent to the team captain. Because they are an 80+ team, most of the players will be eligible for free Club membership.

9. San Jose Giants event – Angelo is again coordinating this fun event. He is looking at July 20 for the date and will ask San Jose if we can provide someone to throw out the 1st pitch. Angelo will try and hold the Club member price at $20.

10. Rain Line – The phone that Club members and NCSSA tournament players call in to check field availability has been having problems; mainly the incoming message box filling up. Hiro will try and turn the incoming message box off. Bill Picht will ask the NCSSA to get their own rain line phone.

11. Day Play rules – Hiro and Ron Sorg have reviewed the current Day Play rules. One suggestion will be to limit a substitute runner for a batter 1st base only unless the hit ball is a ground rule double. Other possible exceptions will be discussed.

12. Round Table – Steve raised a concern that the Night League might have better attendance if it had a team setup and offered end of season awards. This would give players a sense of commitment and more incentive to attend. The Board agreed but wants to wait until June to see how the League looks.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM. The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday April 6, 2017.

Respectfully submitted by Pat Michael, Club Secretary
