Minutes for August 3, 2017 Board of Directors Meeting

The August 2017 meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Dennis Logie, President. Board members present were Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, Hiro Tarumi, and Rob Weiss.

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The July 2017 Board Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The July 2017 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report showed a credit of $300 from Chase Bank for opening a new account and payment of $600 each to the 5 sponsored teams.

3. Holiday Party – Pat attended a Party Committee meeting and reported that the party this year will be on December 2 at the San Carlos Adult Community Center, the same venue as last year. Pete Kutch, the Holiday Party Coordinator, will soon contract a caterer and is busy addressing the many other tasks needing attention. Pete and Debbie Kutch will no doubt put together another great party.

4. Chase Account – Angelo has now fully transferred our Wells Fargo account to Chase. Already we have earned $.08 in interest.

5. One-Pitch tournament – Invitations and raffle tickets have been sent out to all members for this fun event to be held on Labor Day, September 4, 2017. Rob will take care of ordering 1st place shirts, Angelo will take care of the food including getting a new BBQ and provide players’ names to Pete. Rob, Bill, Pete, and Hiro will draw up the teams. Pete will move needed equipment from the Highlands Field. If signups are like last year, there will be 4 American League teams (younger) and 4 National League teams (older). The commissioners will find coaches for each team. Rules will be the same as last year. Raffle items are still being collected. The cuisine will consist of hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, potato salad, chips, sodas, waters, and ice cream.

6. Day Play rules – Hiro suggested that a larger strike mat be used for Day Play. The frequency of walks slows down the game. Day Play will experiment with a larger strike mat. The ASA regulated mat size is 17” x 34” and the Club is considering going to 20” x 37”. The No Double Play rule for 75+ was discussed regarding runners advancing or not. Pat will draft an update to the rule and send it to the Board for review.

7. NorCal tournaments – Several tournaments have cancelled this year, likely due to not enough teams signing up because of multiple tournaments on the same weekend. NCSSA will consider reducing the number of tournaments allowing more teams to sign up for each tournament. The Club needs to find out when the SSUSA Western Nationals and Cal Cup tournaments are next year to optimally find a date for the Club tournament. Bill is on the NCSSA Board and will keep a close eye on this very important matter.

8. Club Shirts – Contrary to last month and due to several requests, the Board has decided to place another order of shirts this year if enough interest is there. The minimum order is 24. Angelo will send out an email to the Club. Next year, the plan for the shirts is to have a different look and maybe not include the year under the logo.

9. San Jose Giants – Angelo reports that 78 members and guests attended the July 20 game against the Rancho Cucamonga Dodgers. Although the traffic to San Jose was terrible and our seats were not behind home plate, folks had a great time and saw a good game.

10. BBQ status – Angelo is waiting for the Labor Day sales to purchase a new BBQ.

11. Round Table – Christie Vigo (Mike’s widow) passed away recently.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 P.M.

The next monthly Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday September 7, 2017.
