Annual Membership Meeting Minutes

Redwood City Señors Softball Club
The Annual Meeting was held in the Veterans Memorial Senior Center Sunset Room at 7:05 PM. All nine current Board members were present including Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Dennis Logie, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, Hiro Tarumi, and Rob Weiss. Eleven additional Club members were present. All attendees were verified to be current paid members.
Dennis welcomed everyone and Pat reviewed the minutes from the 2016 Annual Meeting. The minutes were approved.
Dennis, as Club President, gave a State of the Club report during which he mentioned the recent loss of Ralph Mariucci and the loss of four others associated with the Club including upcoming services for Mike Flynn’s daughter. The Club celebrated the 92nd birthday of its oldest active player, Dick St Denny, with a hot dog picnic at Red Morton Park. The Day Play players moved around last year since Red Morton was under construction. They played at San Carlos Highlands until Red Morton was ready, then moved to Hoover during the summer, then to Hawes back to Hoover and back to Red Morton. On December 29, 2016, Day Play held its last game of the year celebration with a group picture and pot luck. The Club had its annual outing to a San Jose Giants game where Dick St Denny threw out the first pitch, had a successful Holiday Party under the management of Pete Kutch, Day Play saw the number of players averaging near 40, Night Play was able to accommodate enough players to have weekly games, the Saturday League had a high of 7 teams, the Annual Club Tournament was successful with all games at Red Morton and the younger teams loving McGarvey Field, the Club sponsored 5 tournament teams with a stipend of $600 each, the 1 Pitch Tournament on Labor Day hosted 108 players and 8 teams, the Señors Games held competition for 9 events in 6 categories with 151 contestants participating, the new Club website is running smooth with lots of pictures, schedules, etc., Bob Cushman’s bat project has donated $700+ to the Club, RWC entrances now have the Club logo on their Welcome billboards, a 10+ RWC girls softball team visited Day Play and raised $500 in raffle sales to support their trip to Oregon for a tournament, and Randy Schwartz collected equipment from Club members to supply a high school team in need.
For 2017, defibrillator training is scheduled in February, Day Play Commissioners will be reviewing the Rules to make sure they are clear and appropriate, and the Club is looking at ordering shirts for sale that will have the Club logo.
Dennis summed up by saying he is looking forward to a great 2017.
Angelo, as Club Treasurer, reviewed the Annual Financial Report. He reported that 2016 was a good year with income coming from annual dues, San Jose outing, 1 Pitch Tournament, annual tournament, and Holiday party. Major expenses were the San Jose outing, 1 Pitch Tournament, Holiday party, insurance, annual tournament, and sponsored teams. The Club ended the year with $2000 more in their account than last year. Carole De Gery suggested a donation link on our website with a program like Amazon Smile. Deb Coyne suggested we look into donating to causes using a program like Magic Playground. Angelo reported that the Holiday party finished in the black for the 1st time in 3 years. The Board will review raising the price of the San Jose outing tickets to lessen the amount the Club subsidizes. The 2016 Annual Financial Report was approved.
Pat then established that there was a quorum to allow the election of the 2017 Board of Directors to proceed. The attendees were then handed an election ballot for the 2017 Board. Brenda Guzman collected the filled out ballots and she and Debbie Coyne counted the results and verified that the nine candidates on the ballot were all elected. The 2017 Board of Directors will be Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Dennis Logie, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, Hiro Tarumi, and Rob Weiss. Pat Michael encouraged those in attendance to consider running for the Board in the future.
Dennis then opened the floor to all attendees for any comments.
Brenda suggested that the Club look into emergency tags for members that they can attach their equipment bags. The tags would have important information to be used in case of an emergency. Pete Lewis suggested we have an In Case of Emergency (ICE) number in the Club member contact list. Sharon Cassidy wants clarification of the Day Play rule for infielders playing behind or in front of the infield border. The Day Play Commissioners will include this in their rules review.
Dennis then thanked everyone for attending and excused the non Board members although they were invited to stay for the Board meeting if they wanted to.
