Minutes for September 3, 2015 Board of Directors Meeting preceded by a Special Meeting

The September 2015 meeting was called to order at 7:10 by Steve Bowerman, acting President in Dennis Logie’s absence. Board members present: Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, Angelo Rizzato, and Hiro Tarumi. Chet Lane was present as a guest to address the upcoming 1 Pitch event.

Additional members present to participate in the voting for a new Board member were: Brenda Guzman, Bob Cushman, Rob Weiss, Deb and Kevin Coyne, Carole De Gery, and Barry Lewis. A quorum of 15 was present.

Rob Weiss was introduced as the nominee for the Board of Directors. Steve conducted a showing of hands vote and Rob was unanimously elected. Rob will serve the remaining portion of the 2015 term.

1. The August 2015 Board Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the official Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The August 2015 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report reflected the cost of a new refrigerator which is shared with another sports group.

3. Summer Night League – The season ended on Aug 18 with a 1 pitch game to prepare for the Labor Day 1 Pitch event. The new Fall/Winter season will begin on Sept 14 at Hawes Park and will start with a 1 game format at 7:00 PM with the possibility of converting to a 2 game format, 7 and 8:15 PM, if there are enough players for a 2nd game. Pete mentioned there are 3 small groups wanting to play together. Some have signed up, the others are pending.

4. Saturday League – With the Pleasanton Tournament on November 14-15, the Saturday League will commence the following Saturday, November 21. Hiro has agreed to commission the Saturday League but will need help. He will ask Bruce Barnes if he is available. The Club will have to ensure that a field is available. With Red Morton under construction, field availability will be at a premium.

5. Foster City and other Field Availability – Bob Cushman arranged a meeting with the Foster City Parks and Rec manager and the Foster City Softball League coordinator. Bob, Dennis, Bill, and Pat were present. The intent of the meeting was to see if fields would be available for Day Play during the time that Red Morton is under construction and if RWC is unable to find the Club a suitable field or fields to play on. We were informed that there is a fee per player for use of the Foster City field, probably Edgewater, and can only commit it through December 2015. In January, a new schedule will have to be negotiated. Use of the Foster City field(s) looks iffy and the Board wants Dennis to pursue the use of Redwood City fields that might be available after November 1, namely Redwood Shores, Pacific Shores at the end of Seaport, Hawes Park, or Highlands Park, San Carlos. Bob was given the go ahead to help Foster City start a senior league similar to what we did with Cupertino and San Bruno.

6. Labor Day One Pitch – Chet Lane, who is the commissioner of this event, reported that everything is on schedule. Teams and captains have been selected, raffle prizes have been procured, and games will commence at 9:00 AM. 1 Pitch Rules were reviewed for clarification with the main change being that the American League will not use the pitching screen. This was decided by a split vote. A check of players showed several had not paid their 2015 dues. Chet will contact them before Monday. Following the last game, a special hitting competition will take place at Bechet Field. Members can contribute $5 and hit for distance and/or accuracy with a chance to win a prize.

7. Logo Ad at RWC entrances - Steve is still waiting for the City return his call.

8. Hats – Angelo reports that only 10 gray hats remain from the recent hat order.

9. Snack Shack – Our co-user in the snack shack, RWC 49ers, will remove their items in time for the Monday 1 Pitch.

10. Holiday Party – Pat reports everything is going OK for the December 5 party. He is looking for raffle and auction items and says that the entertainment group is planning to return.

11. Round Table – The question came up if the Club should consider allowing 48-49 year olds to play in order to increase Club membership. After a short discussion, it was dropped. The Hayward Tournament was discussed and the Board still feels they need past financials before any decision can be made regarding the Club taking over the tournament.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.

Next Board meeting will be Thursday, October 1, 2015.
