Minutes for May 7, 2015 Board of Directors Meeting

The May 2015 meeting was called to order by Dennis Logie, President, at 7:09 PM. Board members present: Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, and Angelo Rizzato. Absent member: Hiro Tarumi

AGENDA ITEMS COVERED:

1. The April 2015 Board Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the official Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The April 2015 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by the Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato.

3. 2015 Sponsored Teams and their budget - Five teams are still scheduled to be sponsored at $600 each. Teams not invited to the June Tournament will be compensated $300 in lieu of the tournament entry fee they won’t receive.

4. Spring/Summer Night League update – Because of the low number of players showing up for the 8:15 game, the League has asked everyone to show up for the 7:00 game for one game of 11 innings. If enough players show up to fill 3 teams then they will play a 3 team format otherwise home team players will play visiting team players.

5. Wednesday Day Play – With the large number of players showing up for Day Play, there might be a possibility of starting up Wednesday games again. However, due to the likelihood of losing Red Morton fields in June for resurfacing and not wanting to disrupt Day Play, the consideration will be shelved until later.

6. Approval for Club logo use – A professional film crew for MLB Inc shot extensive video and recorded a lot of audio at a Day Play session recently. MLB is doing a Baseball Never Ends commercial and wants the Club to sign a release for use of our Club logo. The Board does not object to the use of the logo although they will try and find out its origins.

7. June Tournament – Red Morton fields are now scheduled for resurfacing beginning on June 16. The new fields will need to be graded lower than usual due to the current fields not being properly laid causing an uneven surface. As a result, the tournament will be a 12 team invitational at Hawes Park, June 25-28. Bill Picht, Tournament Director, reports the following: Flyer is on the NCSSA and Club websites; Invites sent to 17 teams out of the 23 eligible teams; Received 3 valid entries and 3 inquiries; Bob Elwood getting the permit for Hawes Park; Scorecards, waiver forms, lineup cards are done; Balls have been purchased; Head umpire contacted, will use 2 per day; Brenda Guzman will do the Master Scoreboard and provide training for the electronic scoreboards; Field Coordinators need to be assigned to manage ice and water, getting games started on time, and handling problems if Tournament Director not available; Duffel Bags will be provided to the winning teams with teams ordering their preferred color; Dennis will provide Bill with a local restaurant guide; and Bob Elwood and Dave Reck will do the brackets.

8. 4th July One-Pitch – The Club is still considering moving this event to Labor Day at the new Red Morton fields but Dennis will look into the possibility of Greer Fields in Palo Alto for availability on July 4.

9. Logo on new backstop pads – Bob Elwood has some sample stick-on logos but was not able to make the meeting.

10. Logo on scoreboards and barbeque – RWC has our logo and when they hang the plaque with our logo on the scoreboards at the fields, they will host a BBQ for the Club.

11. New Board member – The Board is considering an election to add a 9th member to the Board to fill the vacancy that exists.

12. Club website – The Club’s new website (rwcseniorsoftball.org) is the official website of the Club and contains all the latest and up to date information on Club activities.

13. Round Table – Angelo suggested the Club purchase new hats of a different color. The Board decided to purchase gray hats with the official Club logo at a cost of $12 to members. Angelo will be receiving information from the San Jose Giants for the Club’s annual outing. Pete has posted a Club flyer on the Pacific Athletic Club bulletin board.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.

Next Board meeting will be Thursday June 4, 2015.

Respectfully submitted by Pat Michael, Club Secretary
