January 2015

Redwood City Señors Softball Club

Minutes for January 8, 2015 Board of Directors Meeting

The January 2015 meeting was called to order by Dennis Logie, President, at 8:43 PM following the Annual Membership Meeting. Board members present: Dennis, Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Dave Reck, and Angelo Rizzato. Absent member was Hiro Tarumi. Lee Thompson had resigned effective January 2015. All eight members were voted in at the Annual Membership Meeting that just concluded. All the Officers elected to stay in their current position.

AGENDA ITEMS COVERED:

1. The December 2014 Board Meeting Minutes were approved as submitted. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The December 2014 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by the Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato.

3. Saturday League Status discussion was postponed due to both commissioners being absent. The game schedule for January 31 will be rearranged to accommodate members who want to attend the services for Jack Hoover’s wife Doris. Pete volunteered to make the change and post it on the website.

4. 2015 Sponsored Teams – No change from last year.

5. Fall Night League update – Commissioners report that the new Drop In format at Hawes Field is working good. San Carlos informed Pete that they have reserved Highlands Field for our Spring Night League beginning in March. San Carlos wants us to maintain the field as we did last year. San Carlos also indicated that their fields might be available for our use during the summer for Day Play while Red Morton is being resurfaced.

6. Day Play attendance – Bill reported that the number of players signing up at Day Play is still averaging about 35 players on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

7. Holiday Party report - Pat handed out an expense report that detailed the revenue and expenses for the December 2014 party. The Club subsidized $1109 to cover the cost of the party. Angelo suggested we consider having the party at a restaurant this year if it will save us some money.

8. Board Members for 2015 – The current Board at eight members has an opening for a ninth. There are two possible candidates that the Board will consider at a future meeting.

9. Turf Replacement issues – Dennis and Bob Elwood met with Eric Newby from RWC Parks and Rec to discuss the plan to returf the Red Morton fields. There has been a delay in signing the papers to start work due to toxic issues. The City wants to make sure that the new turf is toxic free even if it costs more. They will be doing core sampling soon to see why the fields are so uneven. The City will probably do all the fields at the same time since it is more cost effective. While the Club is looking for alternative fields during the summer, other users of Red Morton fields are doing the same thing making field availability a premium. The Club’s biggest concern is the summer tournament. If we only have Hawes available, it would mean an invitational tournament for 12 teams. Hawes, Hoover, Kiwanis, Highlands in San Carlos, Hayward, Burlingame, Palo Alto and San Bruno fields are all being considered.

There is a significant concern for Dean Perkins who had a stroke while visiting in Phoenix. He is still there but would prefer to be home however transporting him could be dangerous. Meanwhile the Club will need to find a replacement for Dean as the Club’s summer tournament director along with the many of other things he does for the Club.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:45 PM.

Next Board meeting will be Thursday February 5, 2015.

Respectfully submitted by Pat Michael, Club Secretary
