The December 2015 meeting was called to order at 7:05 by Dennis Logie, President. Other Board members present: Steve Bowerman, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Angelo Rizzato, Hiro Tarumi, and Rob Weiss. Absent: Dave Reck Guest: Bob Cushman

AGENDA ITEMS COVERED:

1. The November 2015 Board Meeting Minutes were approved as written. Minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the official Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The November 2015 Treasurer’s Report was approved as submitted by Treasurer, Angelo Rizzato. The report reflected the increased income from Holiday party receipts and 2016 paid dues.

3. Bat Project – Bob Cushman showed examples of what one can do with the bat kit he is offering the Club. The basic bat kit converted to a hat rack will sell for $10 and advanced bat ideas, put together by Will Smith, will sell for more. The various ides will be on display at the Holiday Party for sale and auction.

4. Fall Night League – The League is now operating without a paid umpire and there have not been any problems. Attendance has been low, maybe due to the cold weather, but still enough for a game.

5. Fall Saturday League – The League started November 14 and has gone without any major problems. Games are starting each batter with a 1-1 count. Managers and players are reminded that the rules are mandatory unless the managers agree to override them. The League plays at Hawes Park, where hitting the ball over the center field short fence is a home run. Hitting a ball over the right or left field fences is an automatic three outs.

6. 2016 Board Members Ballot and 2016 Dues Notice – Pat provided a sample ballot of the Board members to be used for the Annual Meeting election. The Dues Notice was updated for 2016.

7. Annual Meeting Notice – Pat updated the Notice of Annual Meeting letter. The Board suggested some changes to the wording of the paragraph about nominations. The updated letter will be sent to all members by December 7.

8. Date of Annual Board Meeting – January 7, 2016 at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center.

9. Holiday Party progress – Pat reports everything is on schedule. The current count is at 108, the entertainment group is rehearsing, 37 raffle items have been obtained, and 10 items will be auctioned off.

10. Day Play at Highlands – The League is using the San Carlos fields without any major problems. On Tuesdays the Club only uses the south field if it does not interfere with a soccer group. Hiro reminded the Board that some players must be more careful when throwing the ball in the direction of players that could get hit.

11. Parking lot car damage and protocol – There has been a few instances that cars have been hit by softballs while parked in the parking lots. There are signs posted advising drivers they park at their own risk however tensions can occur when it happens. The Board is suggesting we talk to the respective person at San Carlos and Redwood City to see who to contact if a car or person is hit. That information will be put on a business like card to hand to the person involved.

12. Potential Cost Savings measures – Bill has looked into the activities that the Club sponsors which the Club has to subsidize, i.e. 1 pitch tournament, San Jose Giants outing, and the Annual Holiday party. There was a discussion on various ideas on how to make these events more lucrative.

13. Decision on Hit for Distance at one-pitch – This added event made the Club $175 but it extended a long day into a longer day. This led to a discussion on how the Club might make the 1 pitch tournament shorter so that the last game is finished on schedule.

14. Round Table – The Red Morton resurfacing is progressing with the completion date now at the end of March 2016. It is possible that Griffin and Bechet Fields will be available before then.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.

Next Board meeting will be Thursday, January 7, 2016 following the Annual Board Meeting.

Respectfully submitted by Pat Michael, Club Secretary
